MAKERSHOUSE 2019

Makershouse 2019

MAKERSHOUSE HOSPITALITY PROGRAM

For the first year, Makershouse 2019 aims to create a platform for creation and entrepreneurship by strengthening research and development through modern technological practices. The selected creators or groups will have the possibility to use the space, equipment, and services of Youth Makerspace Larnaka, for one month each.

The hosting program will offer opportunities to strengthen the production process between creators and organizations/supporters of their innovative ideas. Also important is the fact that each creator will have his/her mentor so that he/she will have the necessary guidance during the implementation of his/her proposal.

Upon completion of the residency, there will be a public individual presentation of the project implemented in the context of hospitality. At the end of the hosting, we expect to offer the local community the opportunity to cultivate a meaningful dialogue with the creators, who are invited to mobilize for self-organization and promotion of their ideas.

Adonis Archontides – YPOMONI

Blending his research into the namesake of the ancient Greek god Adonis (a deity associated with nature and the seasons, eternally trapped in a sterile state between life and death) and the use of video games as visual media, for MAKERsHOUSE Residency 2019 visual artist Adonis Archontides uses 3D scanning and printing technologies in an attempt to mix and blur the boundaries between real and virtual, historical and imaginary, true and false.

The presentation is part of the MAKERsHOUSE 19 hosting program of the Youth Makerspace Larnaka.

An audio-visual experience that focuses on fundamental human experiences. Birth, life, death, the aspects of the self, and the inner battles and changes that transform the ego. A creation of a new, anthropomorphic self. A form recognizable and unrecognizable, a form for the transformation of which the mind and soul contribute. Internal strife takes form in a game of change in the body.

Is every crisis we experience transferred to the body? The body turns into a “battlefield” into which confusion, uncertainty, and mental discomfort enter. Where does the physicality of the body stop and when does the self acquire substance? Life is a process of constant transformation. We can detect all these changes in character, moods, and above all in our face and body. There is a fascination with the self, but not with the self exclusively, but with the possibilities of becoming something new within its objectification. An intense desire to “recreate” the self. Our body is not, as is commonly believed, what we have. It is – whether we like it or not – who we are.
An open negotiation between matter and soul, that ‘prime matter’ in which the body breaks down, into flesh, form, and color. A complex multifaceted object but at the same time a carrier of soul that gives everyone the opportunity for personal interpretation.

The presentation is part of the MAKERsHOUSE 19 hosting program of the Youth Makerspace Larnaka.

XARKIS – “Prozymin”

Xarkis’ new initiative entitled “Prozymin” refers to the branded living culture of dough, which forms the basis of new dough for the creation of bread. In the old days, bread in the consciousness of the people, due to its status as the number 1 stable food (staple food) of the population of Cyprus and other countries in our region, acquired special importance.
The word “prozymin” in the daily life of Cyprus of yesterday, had also acquired a metaphorical meaning and was used when they wanted to indicate the real essence, the base, the core, the essentials, the yeast, to start something new. With this in mind, our new initiative aims to produce “new dough”, through the exploration of the importance of leaven and its reinterpretation in the context of contemporary design proposals.
The report will include experiments, procedures + results from the first phase of the initiative. Struggle to see how we used traditional crafts in alternative contexts and how we ended up designing recycled materials into objects and furniture. They are participating
