Educational Workshops on Traditional Crafts
“Back to the Future 2026”
The Youth Makerspace Larnaka of the Cyprus Youth Organization proudly presents, for the second consecutive year, the educational workshop series “Back to the Future”, aiming to introduce young people to traditional arts and techniques!
Through hands-on workshops led by experienced instructors, participants will explore the application of skills and methods combined with creativity across different themes such as screen printing, ceramics, embroidery, silversmithing, printmaking, and cyanotype.
In the experiential “Back to the Future” workshops, young participants will experiment with tools, use their hands, and take advantage of the equipment provided in the space to apply traditional craftsmanship techniques. The goal of the workshops is not only the personal development of makers and the acquisition of new skills, but also the preservation of our cultural heritage.
Once again, Youth Makerspace becomes a meeting point between amateurs and professionals, promoting intergenerational knowledge exchange, as young and experienced artisans share knowledge and experiences. Through this process of creative interaction and experiential learning, artisans will pass on not only methods, but also the aesthetics, inspiration, and contemporary relevance of each craft.
Register HERE and join us to rediscover the past, experiment with the present, and create the future!
Workshop Schedule:
Cyanotype
14/3 – 10:00–13:00
Did you know there is a photographic method that doesn’t require a camera?
We invite you to discover the fascinating world of cyanotype — an analogue photographic printing technique dating back to 1842. Under the guidance of “The Curious Curly,” an artist and alternative photography enthusiast, you will explore one of the oldest photographic techniques. Using sunlight, you will create your own blue photogram artworks with plants and flowers!
Instructor: Eleni Philippou
Ceramics
21/3 – 10:00–13:00
In this workshop, young makers will have the opportunity to engage with ceramics, one of the oldest art forms, and shape their own clay creations. With the valuable guidance of the instructors, participants will work with clay and, either by hand-building or using a pottery wheel, will craft their own vessels and give them solid form.
Instructors: Vasos Demetriou & Irene Constantinou
Printmaking
28/3 – 10:00–13:00
In the printmaking workshop, young makers will learn the technique of linocut, a form of relief printing. Participants will design their subject on the lino surface, carve it using specialized tools, and then ink it to create unique prints on paper. Through this process, creativity, observation skills, and familiarity with the basic principles of printmaking are developed, while the final result is a personal, handmade work of art.
Instructor: Panayiotis Andreou
Embroidery
4/4 – 10:00–13:00
This week, you can discover the art of embroidery and the different patterns and colors that shape its creations. With the guidance of the instructor, makers will revisit a beloved pastime of the 1950s and 1960s and be introduced to the world of cross-stitch.
Instructor: Leda Santama
Jewellery
18/4 – 10:00–13:00
Through this workshop, we will enter the fascinating world of jewellery making! Participants will learn about different types of jewellery creation and the basic principles of jewellery design and construction, using the wax carving technique.
Instructor: Dimitra Klouni
Screen Printing
25/4 – 10:00–13:00
In the final workshop of the “Back to the Future” series, participants will learn the basic screen-printing process and enjoy a unique creative printing experience on various surfaces. They will become familiar with this popular technique, experiment with colors and compositions, and create unique handmade items.
Instructor: Anastasios Anastasiou
