The Youth Makerspace Larnaka of the Cyprus Youth Organization is organizing a Photography Contest titled “Feelings.” Through their lens, young participants are invited to capture the power of emotions—from joy and happiness to melancholy and contemplation.
The contest is dedicated to the memory of Thrasivoulos Thrasivoulou, Executive Secretary of the Cyprus Youth Organization, and is part of the organization’s Mental Health Awareness Campaign.
The aim of the contest is to highlight the importance of mental well-being and raise awareness among the public through the power of imagery. Young amateur photographers from Cyprus, aged 12-35, are encouraged to use their cameras to capture the uniqueness of human experience, its challenges, and moments of hope.
Mental health is a matter that concerns us all, as studies show it is influenced by multiple factors, including social pressures, uncertainty about the future, and modern life’s fast pace. Emotions play a crucial role in our lives, making us human, authentic, and unique. Through this contest, we invite young people to express their emotions through photography.
Participants can interpret the theme either literally or metaphorically. Examples include:
- Portraits and human photography that capture authentic moments of joy, surprise, thought, or even sadness.
- Landscapes and objects with symbolic meaning—a calm sea conveying peace, a rainy scene expressing melancholy, or a road disappearing into the horizon representing a challenging journey.
- Creative compositions that combine light, shadows, colors, and shapes to convey deeper emotions.
A three-member jury will evaluate the entries and all winning photographs will be showcased in a special exhibition at the 3rd Technology Festival, Makers Fair 2025.
