Project ‘spells/incantations’

In the project ‘spells/incantations’ I study the relationship between magic and science. I analyze proverbs, traditions, rituals, and myths of specific cultures while also conducting general research on the neuroplasticity of our brains and how thoughts can control our physical and psychological state. I research herbal medicines, on alternative medicine and examine the natural environment of each society and what conditions govern their way of life. Analyzing my findings and the similarities between these two languages, I create my spells through the combination of photography and text.
My purpose with this project is to review old habits and traditions and to create a bridge between the world of science and the occult, to show that they are simply 2 different languages, from different times, and that each one, with in her special way, she tries to explain how our body works and the world around us.
In the Makerhouse Residency, I will develop an interactive, art installation for this project. The spells will be inspired by Cyprus.
