INTERACTIVE TECHNOLOGY BOOTHS

Technology booths will be staffed by creators, organizations, and institutions presenting their work, projects, and constructions.

Pascal Space Station

Pascal Schools of Larnaca, Nicosia, and Limassol present the following projects, focused on STEAM Education combined with sustainability, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and hands-on technology.

Terrarium: The terrarium is a miniature ecosystem that students create in the classroom using plants, soil, water, and air. Through this activity, children observe how different elements interact to sustain life, learning the fundamental principles of interdependence and sustainability.

Smart Pots (SmartPlants): These smart flower pots are equipped with moisture, temperature, and light sensors. They feature an interactive “facial expression” that reacts when the plant needs care, such as more water.

AI-powered Flower Chat-Pot: The Green Robot is an AI-integrated robot designed to converse with students and teach them about ecosystems, plants, and sustainability. The robot enhances interactive learning and fosters environmental and technological literacy.

Larnaka Tourism Development and Promotion Company

The Larnaka Tourism Development and Promotion Company enriches and promotes the tourism product of the Larnaka Region through a series of actions and projects based on sustainability and authenticity. At the same time, special emphasis is placed on creating digital media for local and foreign visitors about the unique elements that the area has to offer, including:

Talking Statues of Larnaca (in collaboration with ONEK): the statues of Larnaca come alive and tell their story in English and Greek, through access with QR codes.

Virtual Museums of Larnaca: visitors are allowed to virtually explore the area’s museums from their homes, while the platform can act as a digital tour guide during their visit to the museums.

Virtual Restoration of Archaeological Sites of Larnaka (in collaboration with ONEK): Ruins of monuments and archaeological sites take their original form through accurate 3D renderings.

The Larnaca 360° Cultural Walk allows visitors to explore the city of Larnaka (seafront, shopping center, and old neighborhoods) in digital format with additional information and links.

Frederick University’s “FUF Racing Team”.

The Formula Student institution is a world-renowned competition where teams of university students are challenged to design and build a single-seater formula-style race car.
The Frederick University Formula Racing Team (FUF Racing Team) was created with the primary goal of enabling the University and its students to participate in this competition.

The team consists of students from all departments of Frederick University, driven by their passion for motorsport, teamwork, and their determination to support their fellow students in achieving a strong presence in the global competition.

The activity includes informing the public about the team’s work, the tools and equipment used in the design and construction of the car. Additionally, through special presentations, visitors will see modern equipment and how it is used in specialized constructions and will also learn about road safety and workplace safety.

Last season, the team participated in the international competition FORMULA SAE ITALY, which took place in Parma, Italy from September 4–8, 2024, where they achieved 3rd place overall in the final ranking.

Cyprus CYC Makerspace

The CYC Makerspace is an innovative tech space open to high school students, researchers, university students, and the teaching staff of Cyprus College.
The goal of the CYC Makerspace is to enhance learning and contribute to the acquisition of hands-on experience.

As part of integrating the CyC Makerspace into computer science courses, students from the Computer and Network Technician diploma program created an interactive educational project that combines Raspberry Pi, a web app, knowledge and skills games, and a servo-controlled drawer.

The project is designed to attract young students to the field of technology, with the option for live demonstration and public participation.

Cyprus Computer Society – CCS

The Cyprus Computer Society (CCS) is a professional, scientific, and independent non-profit organization, to develop, upgrade, and promote the ICT sector in Cyprus.

The Association emphasizes the youth with actions aimed both at attracting them to technology professions and at providing the appropriate resources to improve their digital skills. In cooperation with stakeholders and with the valuable contribution of volunteers, we undertake youth activities and student competitions in the fields of programming, algorithmic thinking, cyber security, and robotics.

Robotex MRC 2024

One of CCS’s largest robotics events is the Robotex competition, which this year will be held alongside the MRC (Minoan Robot Sports Competition Global Olympiad) on June 29-30 at the University of Cyprus. At our booth at the MAKERS FAIR, examples from the challenges of the Robotex MRC 2024 event will be presented.

ROBO CY – Kypruino

ROBO is a startup that designs and produces educational platforms, such as Kypruino – an open-source educational platform entirely designed in Cyprus, aimed at teaching programming and electronics.

At the Makers Fair, we are presenting an interactive challenge based on Kypruino: participants are asked to estimate a distance using only their vision. Kypruino will accurately measure the actual distance, and if their estimate is close enough, they will win a collectible mini Robo PCB voltmeter.

The activity aims to promote the use of microcontrollers in educational practice, enhancing skills in observation, logical thinking, and technological understanding.

The STEAMers

Through the modern, interdisciplinary approach of the S.T.E.A.M. methodology (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics), children of all ages have the opportunity to explore the fascinating worlds of Robotics and Programming. Through interactive educational activities, students take on the task of programming Bee-Bots, guiding them across specially designed floor mats. At the same time, using virtual programming tools, they have the chance to ‘bring to life’ the Meet Edison robot, taking their first steps into the world of coding in a creative and playful way.

Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI)

“Journey to the Deep” combines science and technology to inspire love for the sea and its preservation. Through marine robotics technology, participants will have the opportunity to explore the tools and methods used to monitor and study the marine environment. The program aims to foster environmental awareness and innovation through hands-on experience with robotic systems.
The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) is a Center of Excellence for Research, Innovation, and Technological Development, established in 2019 in Larnaca with funding from the European Union and the Republic of Cyprus. Its work focuses on sustainable Blue Growth while addressing both industry and societal needs in the fields of the sea and maritime sectors by offering direct solutions to global challenges. CMMI hosts nine research centers specializing in Maritime technology and decarbonization, Marine robotics, Digital transformation in shipping, Marine monitoring and data collection of marine and coastal ecosystems, Marine biotechnology and aquaculture, Marine cultural heritage, The human element at sea and Marine policy and regional cooperation related to the sea.

KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence

The KIOS Center of Excellence at the University of Cyprus is the largest research and innovation center in the field of Information and Communication Technologies in the region. Its researchers develop intelligent tools to make critical infrastructure systems smarter, more efficient, and more secure for the benefit of society.
