Stellar Entanglement – Larnaca Biennale
“Stellar Entanglement” (2019) is a VR film based on the stripped-down show “The Evolution of Stars”. It tells the story of a mysterious scientific institute trying to ensure the immortality of a civilization held prisoner on a doomed planet in a remote region of our Galaxy. However, the main focus is the search for the space of the Universe within people. The project resulted from the collaboration of Instytut B61 with the directing duo, The Kissinger Twins (Katarzyna Kifert & Dawid Marcinkowski).
The work deals not only with issues of stellar evolution and quantum connectionism but also touches on philosophical issues. “The connections between particles in the Universe, says Jan Świerkowski, are no different from the connections between us.
But is it possible that some of us have been infected with the same elements that made up past cultures?
After all, as astronomers say, each of us brings a souvenir of cosmic catastrophes – supernova explosions. If so, does the fact that we are made of the same matter as the luminous cores of the stars allow us to be called ‘children of the stars’ or is something more necessary?”
Instytut B61 is an international art and science collective founded in Toruń during the UNESCO International Year of Astronomy in 2009 by artist, astronomer, and art curator Jan Świerkowski. Group members include scientists, artists, musicians, visual artists, actors, and cultural administrators. The group creates non-profit performances and multimedia theaters that combine art, science, and technology. The group’s works have been presented in Poland and abroad, including in Armenia, Belgium, Estonia, the Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania, India, Germany, Portugal, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates.
Registration is mandatory. Choose your preferred time slot between 10:00 – 18:00. The duration of the VR film is 10 minutes.
