STEAM for Peace and Entrepreneurship Camp

Cyprus Youth Organization’s Youth Makerspace Larnaka participated in the STEAM for Peace and Entrepreneurship Camp, an employment initiative for 10-13-year-old students aimed at having fun through STEAM-themed workshops. This bi-community activity hosted children from all over Cyprus and was designed with a focus on peace, to introduce friendship, cooperation, and creativity. The Youth Makerspace attended last week building bridges with the young participants!

«Future of Makerspaces in Education»

As the Maker movement is increasingly adopted in primary and secondary schools and Makerspaces, students have more opportunities to create unique, personalized projects and objects such as computer programs, robots, and DIY electronics and develop new abilities and skills.
These crafting activities can foster young people’s creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills – key skills needed in the 21st-century workplace.

At the “Future of Makerspaces in Education” organized by the Cyprus Forum, Youth Makerspace Larnaka and Oxygono, an introduction to the Erasmus+ Assessmake21 project and what was achieved in the context of the development and piloting of a digital tool to assess the development of 21st-century skills. The event will continue with a panel discussion with three PhD candidates – Stella Timotheu, Giorgos Pallaris, and Dora Konstantinou – and early career researchers such as Andreas Papallas, working and researching digital creation and learning through space-making environments.

The panelists will share insights from their research and thoughts on what the future of Makerspaces in educational settings might be, especially in the Cypriot context.
The panel will take place on September 17 at the Youth Makerspace Larnaca of the Cyprus Youth Organization and the participants will have the opportunity to get to know the space! It is noted that the discussion will be held in Greek.
